De grafietstift is niet in hout gevat, maar alleen aan de buitenzijde gelakt zodat het grafiet niet afgeeft aan de vingers tijdens het tekenen. Tijdens het tekenen slijt ook de laklaag aan de top van de grafietstift, waardoor probleemloos kan worden verder gewerkt zonder de stift te slijpen.
